The Young Ambassadors was founded in the fall of 2000 at Paul Public Charter School in Washington, DC by Kenneth Ward. After traveling to West Africa for the first time as an adult, he noticed how the experience changed his life. Returning to the U.S. and witnessing the lack of leadership building programs that fostered healthy relationships and cultural identity amongst his male students, the Young Ambassadors was born.
The vision is to take students to Africa at an early age to impact their development and to counter the negative false images that are pervasive about Africa and Africans. Through this cultural exchange, needed dialogue between Africans and people of African descent in the Diaspora is initiated.
